Professor Dr. Shafi Bhuiyan, PhD, MBBS, MPH, MBA, is an award-winning, globally recognized leader in public health, medical education, and health system development. With academic roles at the University of Toronto and institutions in the U.S. and Bangladesh, he brings extensive international experience. He co-developed Canada’s MScCH program, ITMDs pilot program, and Clinical Public Health bridge training programs for internationally educated health professionals. A strong advocate for maternal and child health (MCH), Dr. Bhuiyan helped launch the MCH Handbook and led the development of the Maternal and Child Health Training Institute in Bangladesh. His global impact earned him prestigious fellowships from UNFPA and postdoctoral training in Thailand, Japan, and Canada. He has held key leadership roles, including Chair of the Canadian Coalition for Global Health Research and board member of several international health organizations. Dr. Bhuiyan led the 13th International MCH Handbook Conference and is known for advancing immigrant health and global health equity. He is the recipient of the Lions International President’s Distinguished Leadership Award and is a Melvin Jones and Helen Keller Fellow. His community leadership includes service as Board Chair of Birchmount Bluffs Neighbourhood Centre and as a director with The Council of Agencies Serving South Asians.
