Monaemul Islam Sizear

Monaemul Islam Sizear is a public health professional with 10 years of progressive experience in health systems and environmental health, focusing on program design and implementation in Asia. Currently, he serves as a Technical Advisor, hired by Open Development on a USAID global health system and governance project, supporting government initiatives under the Chief of Party’s supervision. Previously, he held managerial positions at ThinkWell, WaterAid, icddr,b, Sajida Foundation, and NGO Forum for Public Health. During this time, he gained extensive experience in technical and management issues, establishing himself as an impact-driven leader dedicated to advancing health system interventions.

A passionate public health thinker, Sizear has authored and co-authored eight peer-reviewed articles in reputable journals. He also contributes columns and opinion pieces on health systems and contemporary global health issues to newspapers and academic platforms. Additionally, he volunteers with professional organizations such as Health System Global and Public Health Foundation Bangladesh and founded the social media page “Health Systems Matter,” which has 3,000 followers.

Academically, Sizear is trained in Anthropology, Public Health, and Urban Policy Development in Bangladesh and the Netherlands. He has also received various academic training from global institutions to enhance his technical and leadership skills in global health. His interests include health systems and financing, public-private partnerships, health-seeking behavior, and human-centric system thinking. He envisions to use his expertise to address complex urban health challenges and provide evidence-based, sustainable solutions to create a societal impact.
