
Dr. Md Anwarul Azim Majumder is a distinguished medical educationist and public health specialist with extensive experience in curriculum development and educational leadership. He currently serves as the Director of Medical Education at the Faculty of Medical Sciences, The University of the West Indies, Barbados. Dr. Majumder’s academic journey began with an MBBS from Chittagong University, Bangladesh, which laid the foundation for his subsequent roles in governmental hospitals. Driven by a passion for education, he pursued a Masters in Health Profession Education from the University of New South Wales, Australia, and later earned a PhD in Medical Education from the University of Dundee, UK, supported by a WHO Fellowship.
In addition to his academic qualifications, Dr. Majumder holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Economics from Dhaka University and a Fellowship from the Higher Education Academy, UK. His expertise has significantly influenced the development of curricula for medical, nursing, and allied health professionals, with a focus on addressing the dynamic needs of the healthcare workforce.
Before his current role, Dr. Majumder made notable contributions to the Department of Clinical Sciences at the University of Bradford, UK, where he worked to enhance access to medical education for underserved students. He has also worked in the School of Medical Sciences at Universiti Sains Malaysia and the Centre for Medical Education in Bangladesh, advocating for innovative teaching strategies and advancing medical education.
Dr. Majumder has led several educational and public health research projects funded by renowned organizations such as the WHO, British Council, UNFPA, and the World Bank. His research has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals, contributing to the global discourse on medical education and public health. He holds important positions, including being a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of Taylor and Francis Ltd. and serving as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Advances in Medical Education and Practice.
